AP Exams Are Going Digital!
Starting in May 2025, 28 AP exams are moving to either a fully digital or a hybrid digital testing format, a departure from the long-standing paper format. You probably have a lot of questions about what this means for your exam(s), but don’t worry—Barron’s has all the answers and the latest information you need to know for test day.
What is the fully digital testing format?
You will complete the entire exam using the Bluebook digital testing application. This means that you will view and respond to all multiple-choice questions and free-response questions digitally within the Bluebook app. Paper exam booklets will not be provided.
What is the hybrid digital testing format?
You will view all questions (both multiple-choice and free-response) within the Bluebook app, and you will respond to all multiple-choice questions digitally within Bluebook. However, you will still hand write your answers to the free-response questions in paper exam booklets that will be turned in and scored.

Are Barron’s AP books still relevant for these updated exams?
Yes! All Barron’s AP books have been written and reviewed by AP experts who have ensured that all review and practice is still relevant and up-to-date for the fully digital and hybrid digital exams.
Note that most AP exams will not have any changes in exam format, question types, number of sections or questions, calculator policies, etc. For the exams that have already, or will soon, undergo a significant test change (such as AP Psychology, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, and both AP Physics C exams), Barron’s has covered all of these updates in the latest editions of these books.
In addition, all Barron’s books are accompanied by online practice (and/or audio, where applicable) to prepare you for the digital test-taking experience.
