Ted Jones and Chris Patmore - All books by this author

The brand-new edition of this filmmaker’s how-to manual has been substantially expanded with detailed information that focuses on digital cinematography. Beginners to the craft found the first edition’s great visuals and fast-paced, easy-to-follow explanations a perfect introduction to filmmaking. And now, whether students work with standard film, digital equipment, or both, they will learn how to—
  • Formulate story ideas
  • Shoot and edit footage
  • Lay down soundtracks
  • Add special effects
Practical projects and exercises give students many opportunities for hands-on experience. And as they work, they’ll get advice on—
  • Putting together a showreel
  • Work in a variety of genres
  • Getting their finished film seen
The book’s main focus is on short movies intended for private screenings, festivals, competitions, or broadcasts on TV or the Web, and ranging in length from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. Printed in color throughout, this instructive volume features approximately 300 how-to photos and illustrations.

From the Reviews:
Praise for the previous edition
"The text is clear and concise, and the book is loaded with instructive color photographs...This volume will give students the tools necessary to produce a first film with little more than an idea, a video camera, and basic word-processing software."
—School Library Journal, Jan. 2006
